Helping care for a child with special needs can be challenging. It requires an abundance of resilience, love, and accepting that the life you envisioned for you and your family has changed. Every family goes through the process of adjusting to their new lives differently.

This week on Seizing Life, we present a never-before-seen episode with Kelly and Miguel Cervantes, recorded in November 2018.  At the time of the recording, Kelly and Miguel were in the midst of providing care and desperately searching for answers for their 3-year-old daughter Adelaide who was suffering from an undiagnosed condition resulting in seizures and multiple physical and cognitive challenges. Kelly and Miguel engage in a frank conversation about the mental and emotional impacts and challenges of caring for Adelaide. Additionally, they explore communication and coping techniques used to help reach a place of acceptance while remaining resilient and hopeful.

Sadly, Adelaide Cervantes lost her battle a year ago this month. As we approach the first anniversary of her passing, Kelly and Miguel have chosen to share this difficult but important episode in hopes that it will be of value to other parents and families going through similar circumstances.
