Vezzani is a PhD in Neuropharmacology, post-doc at the Karolinska Institute (Stockholm), and at the University of Maryland (USA), and on sabbatical at the Albert Einstein Medical School, (USA). Presently, she is the head of the Laboratory of Epilepsy and Therapeutic Strategies at the Department of Acute Brain and Cardiovascular Injury, Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milano Italy).
Her main research focus is on cellular and molecular mechanisms of seizures and epileptogenesis for developing new treatments and biomarkers. She is the author of over 200 original papers, several book chapters and reviews in peer-reviewed high impact scientific journals.
She is past Chair of the Commission on Neurobiology of ILAE (2005-2009). Member of the Innovative Medicine Initiative (IMI) Scientific Committee (2018-2019). Member of the ILAE Commission on European Affairs (2013-2017). Serving in several editorial boards of scientific journals and American Epilepsy Society (AES) and ILAE committees, presently chair of the task force on research sustainability of the ILAE Climate Change Commission. Recipient the Research Recognition Award for translational research in 2009 by the AES.
