These FREE events happen across the country each year to give those impacted by epilepsy and their families the chance to learn from researchers and local physicians in an intimate setting, network with others in their community, and obtain valuable resources to discuss with their own care team. To date, CURE Epilepsy has hosted nearly 20 CARES events at institutions in Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Raleigh-Durham, Miami, Cincinnati, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Disneyland, and even virtually.
If you or someone you love are impacted by epilepsy or you are a healthcare professional working in epilepsy and you would like to speak to someone about hosting a CARES event in your region, please contact Brandon Laughlin, Sr. Manager of Strategic Partnerships & Outreach, at brandon.laughlin@CUREepilepsy.org or 312-589-5569.
Below is an outline of the structure and some of the benefits of attending a CURE Epilepsy CARES event.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with local organizations who provide resources and support in the Epilepsy Resource Center. This is also a great opportunity to network with other attendees and build a community of support. Prior to the start of the panel discussion, attendees will receive a brief overview of CURE Epilepsy research and educational programs, as well as hear from a local individual who has been affected by epilepsy and what they have learned during the epilepsy journey.
A local epilepsy researcher will provide a lay summary of some of the current research they are conducting in their local lab and what implications this could have on the epilepsy community. Attendees will then be introduced to a panel of several experts from around the local area that will address questions by the moderator with input and follow-up questions by the audience.
Each panelist will sit at separate tables and have discussions with families in a more intimate and inclusive setting over a CURE-Epilepsy-provided boxed lunch. Attendees are encouraged to get up and move from table to table, learning more specifics from the experts in areas of epilepsy that were most relevant to them.
Starting in 2024, CURE Epilepsy is excited to announce some new enhancements to the CARES program that will provide attendees with even greater access to epilepsy experts and some of the exciting research on the horizon. Keep an eye out for communications about future CARES events coming to your community.
Both national and regional sponsorships are available for the CURE Epilepsy CARES series and individual locations. The organizations also have the opportunity to participate in the live and virtual resource center where they can host a table and provide the local community information and resources about their services.
