Alexander’s Story

Hi, my name is Alexander, and this is my story. I found out that I was epileptic at the age of 26. One day I came home, and my fiancé at the time noticed something was wrong with me: I was saying random things that made no sense and I was unaware of my surroundings.

The next thing I remember is waking up in a hospital. No one knew what had happened to me. The doctor believed that I was just extremely exhausted — I was a class A truck driver at the time. He just gave me a couple of days off from work. After my time off, I went back to work driving big rigs, and then it happened again.

After this, they suspended my license and sent me to a neurologist to see what was wrong and run tests. After a 48-hour EEG, I was diagnosed with Epilepsy. They told me I have complex partial seizures . This meant that I was getting my class A and class C license was taken away from me. I was crushed. I thought my life was over. And this all happened the day before my wedding. I didn’t know what to do or how would I support a family. Would I ever work again? Would I ever drive a car again?

Later that day I decided that I would not let Epilepsy control my life. I started to research nonstop and change my whole life around. I started the ketogenic diet. From there I started to work out (I lost 78 pounds), focus more on my sleeping, and take all my medication. After 5 months I got my class C license back and went back to work as a dock worker. I was very blessed. I still struggle with Epilepsy every day and I do still have seizures from time to time, but a much smaller one that lasts for seconds. was going well for a long time.

The day my daughter was born I had another major seizure, but I picked myself back up and started again. I have not given up that they will find a cure for Epilepsy! I want you to know that because you have Epilepsy your life is not over! You can have a normal life, and you are not alone in this.
