This week on Seizing Life®, Channing Seideman shares her epilepsy story from her first seizure and initial diagnosis at nine years old through her long and varied treatment journey to a revised diagnosis of juvenile myoclonic epilepsy. Channing discusses the social, emotional, and physical impacts of drug-resistant epilepsy and the side effects of the numerous anti-seizure medications that have so far failed to provide seizure freedom.

Channing details her epilepsy journey and explains how she and her family found solutions that safely allow her to continue participating in two of her favorite activities, horseback riding and skiing. She explains how these activities have provided a relief from the impacts of epilepsy and allowed her to maintain a quality of life that’s vital to her mental health. Channing also discusses how she has turned her love of horseback riding into “Dressage for a Cause”, an annual fundraising event benefiting CURE Epilepsy’s research program. Finally, Channing offers personal advice for other young people who are dealing with a new epilepsy diagnosis. Hear the inspiring story of a fearless young woman who refuses to let her diagnosis stop her from doing the things she loves.
