As part of our Meet the Moment initiative, Protecting Our Progress Awards provide emergency support to researchers facing immediate threats to their work due to federal funding uncertainty and policy-related constraints, helping ensure critical epilepsy research continues uninterrupted.
Every year, families affected by epilepsy face the devastating reality of Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), the leading direct cause of epilepsy-related mortality. This project will unlock a large, unique collection of patient data gathered over many years in Europe and connect it with a similar U.S. resource. By carefully organizing and securely sharing these data with researchers, Dr. Ryvlin will create one of the world’s most valuable resources for studying SUDEP. The resulting platform will help scientists identify risk factors, validate potential warning signs, and accelerate research aimed at preventing SUDEP and protecting people living with epilepsy.
