I experienced my first episode shortly after I received the COVID vaccine back in 2020. I was also going through my first pregnancy so I thought the absent episodes I was having multiple times a day were related, until I lost the pregnancy and the seizures didn’t stop.
My healthcare providers had no clue what I was talking about so I just lived with it until halfway through my second naval deployment. I had a grand mal in front of our Hospital Corpsman’s. After that it was very clear that I had been battling epilepsy and my time in the navy would be coming to an end.
Years later I still haven’t found a medication plan that’s worked for me. It seems my episodes just find a way around everything we try. A cure would mean the world to me and give me the strength and hope to be the person I know I can be. I just miss the freedom, not being terrified, and most of all the memories I know I’m losing.
