My daughter has Epilepsy. A cure for epilepsy for us would mean my daughter could return to a normal successful life again. She’s unable to think clearly on the medications she is taking to prevent seizures.
The epilepsy foundation in the USA has not offered any type of clinical study, counseling for my daughter, or any resources to help. After donating thousands of dollars to the local Kansas City epilepsy fund raisers & donating items to auction at a fund-raising event, we have received no help whatsoever! The only type of results from these fund raisers was one local person who claims to visit a few classrooms each year & color sheets with kids to explain epilepsy. It’s shocking that such a large organization can misuse funds in this way.
Our family hopes that financial help can lay the groundwork to have a lab with qualified scientist to find a cure and improve medicine to minimize the horrific side effects of outdated drugs prescribed. Help give funds to a lab where scientists can develop a cure for epilepsy because no advancements have been made in 50 yrs. My daughter, now 29, was top of her class throughout school & graduate of a private university until she was diagnosed with epilepsy.
Since developing epilepsy, she has tried dietary changes, exercise, and strict adherence to her medication regimen. Despite these efforts, she continues to struggle with anxiety, depression, weight gain, and cognitive side effects caused by her medications.
The cost of these medications is also astronomical. As a result of both the condition and the side effects of treatment, our daughter remains dependent on her family for care at the age of 29.
We believe that greater investment in research is essential to provide hope and real solutions for people living with epilepsy and their families.
