I had my first seizure 2 weeks after I got the first Covid vaccine. That was March of 2021. Then, in April, I had my second seizure and began taking my first medication of Keppra. I did have to switch from this medication because I was becoming easily annoyed with people, and this was not in my nature.
My new med was Lamictal, and I went a year and a half seizure-free. When the seizure came back, it chose a bad time, a real bad time. I was driving and had the entire road to myself. It was a holiday weekend, September 3, 2022, and I remember 1 car passed by going in the opposite direction, but honestly there was no car in front of me. But at an intersection at the crest of a hill, I ran into the back of that car. I don’t remember hitting them, and I kept driving until I pulled off the side of the road. I totaled my husband’s truck and the other peoples’ car. Since then, I’ve had a focal seizure every month until recently when I finally made it 8 months. The 2 that I had this summer were in July and August when it was so hot here in NC.
What do I miss most? My independence and my memories. I’ve lost family and friends because they do not understand epilepsy, and of course they are afraid, but it’s ok. I still have my husband, my uber dude.
