In honor of SUDEP Action Day, we’re rebroadcasting an important episode of Seizing Life exploring Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP), the risk factors, and ways patients, families, and caregivers can reduce the risk.

Unfortunately, patients are often not made aware of this devastating potential outcome of epilepsy. Often occurring when a person is asleep, SUDEP is a major concern for epilepsy patients and families alike.

While the scientific community is beginning to understand the mechanisms which may cause SUDEP, we still don’t have methods to identify who is at greatest risk or to prevent SUDEP. Additional research is critical to preventing these tragic deaths. CURE is one of the largest non-governmental funders of SUDEP research and we won’t stop until the world is free from this devastating epilepsy outcome.
