Connie Milstein
A long time supporter of medical research, Connie Milstein serves on the Board of Directors of CURE (Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy). A consummate problem solver, Milstein is not only committed to finding a cure for the disease, but also for erasing the stigma of epilepsy.
She is also the driving force behind the creation of the Vivian and Seymour Milstein Family Heart Center, a world-renowned heart facility at New York Presbyterian Hospital, where Milstein has been a trustee since 2000. Milstein’s dedication to heart research dates back to her first paying job for the North Carolina Heart Association, and continues with her service as 2010 Chairman of “Heart’s Delight,” the American Heart Association’s annual Auction and Fundraiser in Washington, D.C.
Milstein stays closely connected and involved with a wide range of causes and commitments. Connie’s Bakery & General Store, a successful and socially responsible bakery and gift shop, donates 100% of net profits to charity and sustains a vital job training program. Launched in 2005, the Mt. Kisco location was such a success, a second Connie’s Bakery was added in 2006 in Northern Westchester Hospital.
Guided by the principal of giving back to the country that has given her so much, Milstein is a fervent advocate of military service and is a Board member of Blue Star Families. She actively works to empower and support military families and her “Adopt a Base” program includes honoring military families with special events and treats ranging from fresh baked brownies from Connie’s Bakery to new books for children.
In addition to giving back to her community and country, Connie Milstein is a successful businesswoman. As Principal and Co-Founder of Ogden CAP Properties, LLC, Milstein guides the company’s real estate, hotel and development operations, including directing the elegant reconstruction of Washington DC’s historic Jefferson Hotel.
Milstein is committed to international diplomacy and is member of the Board of Overseers of the Seton Hall University School of Diplomacy and an International Council Member of the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. She is a co-founder of the Humpty Dumpty Institute (HDI), a non-profit organization supporting public-private partnerships to support mine-action programs and help alleviate domestic and international hunger, and helped launched Medical Missions for Children, providing healthcare to thousands of young children in telemedicine centers in over 40 developing countries.
In 2000, Milstein was awarded the prestigious National Human Relations Award by UN Watch and its parent organization, the American Jewish Committee. In 2004, Milstein received the Celine Marcus Award by New York’s Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter for her long-time advocacy for the homeless, and in 2007, was honored as an Urban Visionary by Cooper Union for her outstanding urban citizenship.
Milstein is a Trustee of the Democratic Leadership Council and a Board Member of the National Democratic Institute. In 2009, she served as Treasurer of the Democratic Governors Association, and is continuing in 2010 as Counselor to the Chairman.
Milstein serves on the Board of the New York City Parks Foundation, is a Director of the New York City Opera, and is on the Board of Advisors of the National Symphony Orchestra.
Milstein graduated from New York University, where she currently serves as a Trustee. In 2009, NYU awarded her with the College of Arts and Science Distinguished Service Award for her extraordinary professional achievements. Milstein went on to earn a J.D. cum laude from North Carolina Central University Law School, where she was comment editor of the law journal.
Milstein, a proud mother and grandmother, resides in Washington, D.C. with her husband.
